Another exciting month for my dividend income journey as I received over $850 dividend income from 44 different income streams.
I thought I could break my September 2016 dividend income record in December, but I couldn’t do it because of the recent portfolio adjustments. Hopefully, I will break the record in March 2017 😀 .
Regular readers know that I receive higher dividend payments in the month of March, June, September and December.
I received $859.12 dividend income in December 2016, and it is 21.29% higher than December 2015 which was $707.73.
Summing up all the dividends I received in 2016, I came up with $7049.17. One of my short-term financial goals is to receive at least $7200 dividend income during the year of 2016.
Sadly, I missed to achieve this goal by $150.83 or 2.1%; however, it was really a wonderful year for my dividend income. I am really happy that I received over $7000 pure passive income in 2016, which is 42.26% higher than 2015.
It is very impressive growth. Hopefully, the trend will continue in 2017 too. Now I could see the magic of compounding growth.
With dividend growth and dividend reinvestment alone, this passive income will grow at least 10% per year. But, I will add new capital to accelerate the growth faster than 10%.
As I always tell you (readers), I am trying to inspire you by showing my small achievements to start your own journey to reach your financial freedom. It is not a rocket science. If I can do with a middle-class income, then you can do it too.
Now let’s look at my dividend income in numbers.

A 21% increase that is fantastic. If only we could keep that up for years to come, you’d be happy with that.

Hello BHL,
Thank you for stopping by,
It is really hard to keep the rate for years. In reality, when the numbers get bigger the growth rate will slow down..

Contratulations on your progress!
I was wondering whether you also set yourself goals as far as your debt level is concerned. Do you want to be able to lower your credit card debt to a certain amount by the end of 2017, for example?
Since you make use of margin loans, I was interested in what the interest rate is that they charge you for that and whether you ever took the time to calculate what percentage of your gains are lost to interest payments each year?
Thanks.

Hello Andre,
Thank you for stopping by,
Honestly, I don’t have any goal to pay-down debts any time soon.. First, I would like to build my assets, then I may consider paying down the debts. If I do opposite, then it takes me for years to build my net worth.
My margin loan is at TD direct investing, and the interest rate is 4.25% as of Jan 27, 2017.
Cheers,
