I hit a milestone of $1000 dividend income in a single month. It is a great achievement for me, and I strongly believe I continue to break my own records in the coming months.
Yes! I received $1025 dividend income in December 2017.
This is a pure passive income. I will be keep getting this money in my bank accounts every quarter whether I am at work or in a sunny beach. In fact, I received most of these payments automatically in my accounts while I was enjoying almost 14 days of holiday in December.
Regular readers know that I receive higher dividend income in March, June, September and December. Most of my big holdings hike their dividends in first and second months of the year. Therefore, my March dividend income will be little higher than this one.
It is not an overnight success story. It took me almost 5 years to get this point. If I can keep maintaining this momentum, I strongly believe that I will be in much better position in another 5 years.
I worked really hard to make money and worked even harder to save some money after hefty tax and other deductions, and invested the saving into diversified high quality dividend stocks. After years of this slow and boring approach, I started to feel benefits of ‘compounding power’.
As many of you know, we are an one income middle class family with a 3-years old kid. If I can do this, then you can do even better than me. All you need is right reason with right mindset of financial freedom.
I am sharing all these information in this blog because I just wanted to inspire people to think about their financial freedom and live their life as they wish, instead of trading their life for money.
Let’s get back to dividend income report.
I received $1025.22 dividend income in December 2017, which is 19.33% higher than the income I received in December 2016, which was $859.12.

Hi. Just found this site and I love the insight and perspectives here so thanks. Just wondering if you ever share or discuss the allocation of the various equities you have in terms of TFSA, RSP, RESP etc…More specifically wondering if I should exhaust the CASH position in my RRSP before opening a non-registered investment account to potentially buy high dividend paying equities (or the other way around).

Hello Michael,
Thank you for stopping by,
First, I would like to mention that I am not an tax expert. I also try to hold my investment tax-efficient way and avoid unnecessary tax headaches. Therefore, I’ve allocated my investments as:
– Canadian bonds, ETFs, MIC, Limited partnership units (BIP.UN, BEP.UN, BAM.A, etc) and REITs in my TFSA accounts
– U.S dividend paying stocks and U.S ETFs in my RRSP accounts
– Canadian dividend stocks in my non-registered accounts
I really hope I could avoid unnecessary taxes by keeping my investing in this way 🙂
Please discuss with a qualified financial adviser before make any financial decision 🙂
Best Regards,

Great to hear! Long time reader but first time poster, and I’ve been waiting for you to hit this milestone for a while!
A question I have always wondered is where do you hold all of these equities? Do you hold most of them in non-registered accounts? Do you hold some of them in a TFSA or RRSP?
Thank you & congratulations!
Grant

Hello Grant,
Thank you for stopping by and your kind comments,
I am not a tax expert, but I always try my best to minimize tax by:
– holding Canadian bonds, ETFs, MIC, Limited partnership stocks (BIP, BEP, BAM.A, etc) and REITs in my TFSA accounts
– holding U.S dividend paying stocks in my RRSP accounts
– holding Canadian dividend in my non-registered accounts
I hope this make senses.
Thank you once again 🙂
Best Regards

Congrats mate. Nice dividend increase overall. WOW such a diversified portfolio of dividend players. I agree with the effort and sacrifice it takes to generate passive income. I am barely managing 1000$ in a single year. But, i know with time, effort and sacrifice it is possible to be FI.
