I received record dividend of $1160 from 31 different sources in December.
Long term readers know that I receive ‘fat’ dividends in March, June, September and December, and slightly lower dividends in February, May, August and November.
Most of my top holdings usually hike their dividend payouts at the beginning of the years so I could expect another record-breaking passive income in March. I hope this trend will continue for decades to come.
Many investors might have experienced a deep sell-off in the fourth quarter of 2018, and it got even worse in December.
My investment portfolio was not immune for these types of market carnage; however, it wasn’t a big deal for me because I am an income-seeking investor and I continued to receive my dividends regardless of what market was doing.
Anyways, my portfolios have pretty much recovered from the sell-off in early January.
Due to the sell-off, dividend yields spiked to ‘very’ high levels for my favourite high quality stocks, so I was able to add a couple of them to my portfolios for discounted prices and the action will definitely help to boost my upcoming dividend income for the coming months and years.
For me, as an income-focused investor, cash flow is more important than market value. A stock value goes up and down all the time, but dividends from high-quality stocks mostly go up as they raise them at least once a year.
I hope you got my point.

Let’s get back to the numbers.

Summing up all the dividends I received in 2018, I came up with $9261.78. One of my short-term goals is to receive at least $9000 dividend income during the year of 2018. Therefore, I’ve exceeded my one of the 2018 goal.

HI FJ,
To have a dividend income of $ 9200+ is impressive. Excellent, even with the market crunch in Dec.
Was wondering what software you are using to track your financial portfolio holdings. I am a beginning investor. Some programs are: sigfig, quicken, morningstar, wikiinvest, yahoo finance, google spread sheets, etc. Any advice would be great.
Thanks, Alex
