Intro..
For those of you new to this website, in this post, I discuss the recent changes I made in my dividend portfolios, and sometimes I discuss my portfolio diversification strategies as well.
Another month passed by, and it is time to update the changes I made in my dividend portfolio.
Last month, I did not make any major purchases; however, I just did a minor change in my Canadian portfolio due to a take-over offer received for one of my smallholdings.
I usually sell if my investments receive any take-over offers to lock the profits because sometimes offers may not pass the approval process, and as a result share take hit.
One of my minor holding, Dream Global REIT (TSE: DRG.UN), received a takeover offer last month, so I sold all my positions with around 90% profits.
And, I purchased (initiated) Plaza Retail REIT (TSE: PLZ.UN) using the proceeds raised from the sales.
I just replaced one REIT with another REIT. Therefore, no significant impact due to the changes.
Not a long ago, one of my favorite utility stocks, VNR.TO, received a take-over offer and went private. I think this is the second take-over offer in my portfolio this year.
Other than this activity, I did not make any new purchases in my Canadian portfolio, even though I received over a thousand dollars dividend last month.
I usually get excited and buy stocks when the markets get tanked and stay quiet when they are hot and trading at high.
Last month was an exciting month for investors. The market volatility was very low, and in most of the days, stocks were moving in one direction – upward only.
So, I was very quiet and purchased one or two ETFs in my registered accounts, and also paying down some debts using the dividend received in my non-registered accounts and also using the savings from my day-job salary.
As a result, my purchasing power got improved a bit, so I am in a good position to take advantage of any market sell-off in the coming months.
Now, let us look at the purchases I made last month.
Canadian portfolio
Last month, I sold 50 units of Dream Global REIT (TSE: DRG.UN) and purchased 201 units of Plaza Retail REIT (TSE: PLZ.UN) using the proceeds raised from the sale.
U.S portfolio
I just purchased a few units of my favourite dividend growth ETFs.
International Portfolio
I just added 1 unit of ZDH (Canadian hedged) international dividend ETF.
I will continue to build my international portfolio using the international dividend ETFs (ZDH.TO & IDV) in order to diversify my investments.
Here are the changes I made in my dividend portfolios in September 2019:

Commission FREE ETF purchases
Are you wondering how I can execute small orders of ETSs? Thinking about commission fees?
Actually, I use Questrade for all my ETFs purchases. There are no commission fees for ETFs purchases at Questrade. Therefore, we could buy one or any number of ETFs without paying any commission fees.
This is a great way to deploy cash and invest for more cash-flow as soon as they come in.
For those looking to start investing with little money, Questrade is one of the good options to consider because of their commission-free ETF program and minimum requirements to open an account.
If you have a plan to open an account with Questrade, please accept my gift and take advantage of this $50 trade commission rebate.
There is a trading charge of $4.95 when you sell ETFs. All the details are at the time of writing. If you have a plan to open an account at Questrade, please check all the information (including current commission fees) on their website and see if it is suitable online brokerage for your needs.
