For those of you new to this website, in this post, I discuss the recent changes I made in my dividend portfolios and also discuss about my portfolio diversification strategies.
Canadian stocks especially financial stocks have been performed well in last couple of weeks. Some Canadian banks stocks are trading near record high, and TD bank hits record high.
My portfolios’ value also hit record high after slow summer months. I hope this trend will continue until early next year.
Everyone is expecting a deep correction in U.S market, but it continues to march higher and higher every month.
Based on past history, market correction will come, but nobody knows when it will happen. So, we have to be prepared for everything. One way to prepare is to stick with diversified high quality assets.
In order to diversify, I made a couple of changes in my U.S holdings in September. I trimmed some positions, took some profits and initiated couple of new positions.
All the changes were made in my registered accounts. Thus, I don’t need to pay any tax for the profits.
I also made a minor change in my Canadian holdings.
Here are the changes I made my portfolio:

- SOLD 75 shares of SU at $42.53

- Sold 13 shares of PG at $93.60 (reduced)
- Sold 11 shares of NSC at $130.45 (sold entire position)
- Sold 40 shares of KO at $46.91 (reduced)
- Initiated 25 shares of HRL at $30.60

With these last month changes, my estimated yearly passive income dropped down by $70 to $8330. One of my 2017 short-term financial goals is to bring this number to $8400. I really hope that I could easily hit back this number with upcoming dividend hikes from my dividend holdings.
Please note that I’ve reduced or trimmed some of my positions. It doesn’t mean they are bad stocks. I just wanted to take some profits and diversify my portfolios. I will consider add them back if their price start to move south.
Many readers asked me how or why I execute very tiny orders of ETFs. They were wondering about the commission fees. Actually, I use Questrade for ETFs purchases. There are no commission fees for ETFs purchases at Questrade. Therefore you could buy any number of ETFs without paying commission costs.
I personally use Questrade for most of my investments, especially ETF purchases. For those looking to start investing with little money, Questrade is one of the good options to consider because of their commission free ETF program and minimum requirement to open an account.
If you have a plan to open an account with Questrade, please take advantage of this $50 trade commission rebate.
There is a trading charge of $4.95 when you sell them. All the details are at the time of writing. If you have a plan to open an account at Questrade, please check all the information (including current commission fees) on their website and see if it is suitable online brokerage for your needs.
Disclosure: Please note above is a affiliate link. Therefore, I will earn a commission if you decide to make a purchase (at no additional cost to you).
I have updated the portfolio pages with these changes.

Hello there!
Keep up the good work, you’ve inspired me in my portfolio.
Take a look at TSE:DIV. Found that stock around the end of august. Bought 1500 share of Div. I think its a good stock for you to have in your portfolio too.

Hello Sebastien,
Thank you for stopping by,
TSE:DIV is in my watch-list 🙂 Few months ago, I was about to buy this stocks around $2.75, but for some reason I didn’t execute the trade. To be honest, I felt bad after I missed the latest rally. It is still in my watch-list. I may consider adding it if it trades at attractive valuation.
Best Regards,
